The exhibition title (an allusion to the work of the swiss artist Urs Lüthi) reads at first like a kind of healing promise, but it also speaks of the gap between art and life. Overcoming this gap has been a fundamental artistic problem not only during the last decades. Equally, the title raises the question of the role of the artist.

Present sociological, technical, and media developments have a special influence on artistic production, which is increasingly concerned with the media's powerful molding of daily life and leisure time, and with a media society that monopolizes artistic production itself. Without claiming to be complete, this exhibition aims to open a discussion, utilizing four different approaches. Video and installations examine aspects of entertainment, the media universe, advertising, and pop and club culture; at the same time these works address the self image of the artist, offering the spectator a kind of "anti-universe."

The videos of Pierrick Sorin (Nantes), for example 'L'Homme qui a perdu ses clefs' (2000), capture performances that deal with the absurdities of the creative process and everyday (artistic) life. For his projections which always show the artist himself in different roles, the ³entertainerã Sorin creates stage-like installations whose bizarre presentation collides with contemporary expectations of virtual reality.
Tobias Regensburger (Hamburg) constructs ­placebo-machines and a kind of simulated robots. His mostly kinetic objects, helpful props ­for a better lifeÎ, deal with a pseudo-scientific functionality. Inspired by the merging realities of art and science, daily and invented truths are mixed together, but without the intention to fullfill the increasing promises and expectations towards a tecnical development.

On the other hand, Max Mohr (Cologne) offers synthetic science fiction-worlds. Creations composed of various materials reach from organic to surreal, and are orchestrated into installations. His sensually accessible objects morph the world into a state of dreams that leaves free space for associations.

Simone Böhm (Munich) takes up the codes and aesthetics of advertising and video clips in her installation 'The Beautiful Sound of Seduction' (2000). Different faces of people in various roles are projected on screens and together with a sound collage of love songs they shed light on the zeitgeist of a media influenced pop-culture. It equally addresses the embodied self image and the projected media image within our society. On the other hand, it recalls nostalgic moments of the past caused by the pop songs. The interactive video lounge will serve both as a frame, and as a space for accompanying programs.

Phantombuero Flotation 2                           16.12. - 22.12.2000

Für FLOTATION 2 wird das Phantombuero mit seinem Tourbus eine Fahrt durch München unternehmen. Diese wird am Eröffnungsabend, dem 15.12. ab 19 Uhr, direkt in die lothringer13/halle übertragen. Das anwesende Publikum hat dabei die Möglichkeit, den gesamten Ablauf via Funkbildübertragung mitzuverfolgen, nachdem es der Gruppe vor Abfahrt bestimmte Aufgaben gestellt hat. So bleibt spannend und abzuwarten, ob diese Show reibungslos ablaufen wird, da sich dem Phantombuero durch die komplizierte Live-Technik und die chaotischen Vorgehensweise ständig Hindernisse in den Weg stellen werden ...
Die Aufzeichnung bzw. Relikte dieser Live-Show sind bis 22.12. in der lothringer13/halle zu besichtigen.

Das Phantombuero wurde 1998 in Frankfurt als Label ins Leben gerufen und besteht aus den KünstlerInnen Daniel Milohnic, Zoltan Laszlo, Katja Torwarth, Dirk Paschke, Jörg Rees und Frank Wiehe. Die Arbeitsweise der disparaten Gruppe zeichnet sich dadurch aus, daß sie vor Ort auf gegebene Räumlichkeiten und vorgefundene Situationen reagieren. Dabei bedienen sie sich der unterschiedlichsten Medien wie Video, Installation, Lichtdesign oder Soundinstallation. In diesem Jahr wurden mit dem Tourbus im Rahmen der Aktion "Phantombuero mobil 2000" mehrere Orte (z. B. die Meyer Riegger Galerie in Karlsruhe) angefahren.
Die Ausstellung ist Teil des November- und Dezember-Programms von lothringer13/halle und LADEN. Dafür werden Künstlergruppen eingeladen, um das Phänomen kollaborativer Arbeitsweisen und künstlerischer Netzwerkarbeit vorzustellen. Im LADEN sind vom 25.11. bis 2.12. PAC aus der Schweiz zu Gast, ab 6.12. bis 16.12. dokumentiert die Künstlergruppe und Punk Club "CLB - Club Le Bomb" aus München ihre Worldtour 2000 und inszeniert eine Party.
